A new (shorter) week with some things to keep in mind:
Lots of competitors and support team heading up to Albany for the Fall Face-off this weekend, while some of us head to the CrossFit Football Certification. Consequently, the gym will be CLOSED on Saturday and Sunday. (Friday and Monday hours as usual. Please note that the weekday 9am class has been canxed. But there are plenty more classes! Please check the schedule for more info.)
We will host Fight Gone Bad 5 on Saturday, Sept 25th. All you have to do is show up for class and do the workout. Really. That’s it. If you want to toss a few bucks to the very worthy causes of FGB5 (Wounded Warriors and Livestrong) then sign up here and create a donation page. Or simply donate to somebody else’s page. You can find mine here. Or Chris’s here. Or Jeanine’s. Or Melissa’s. Thanks a bunch!
Finally, today’s Thought of the Day: If it’s too heavy and it’s f***ing you up, put it down. That goes for weights in the gym and stuff in life. Even stuff like alcohol and sugar. (Haha — Albany competitors! You thought you wouldn’t get another reminder about the no-alcohol this week thing!) But really. You’re not going to be able to lift or do everything you want, the first time. Or the second time. Or the third or fifteenth time. You have to build strength and pick your battles wisely. Take a look around the gym and your life and figure out what you need to do in order to get where you want to be. I’ll see you at the gym.

When things get heavy it is smart to put it down, just like when you find yourself in a hole, to quit digging. I have completely taken on a “beginner’s mind” with my crossfit training: recommitting to diet, consistant wods, and most importantly rest. This will make me stronger and able to carry more.

I wonder if Barry has this same phot with Mikey lifting the stone and looking in from the doorway?
September 7th, 2010 at 10:11 am
Mikey is everywhere, like Chuck Norris.
Remember, we’ve never seen Mikey AND Chuck in the same room together.

Shhhh. Rachael — that’s our little secret.
You, me, Nate, Pam, and, oh, hundreds of others?

Not kidding… I just went all the way back to December to look at the titles. I’m procrastinating, is it that obvious?

Ooooh. I haven’t looked that far back. Only over the last month. It has been fascinating to read the posts in backwards order and that’s all I’m going to say.
And now I should go read 100 essays. More coffee!

I’ll see what I can do.

No alcohol is easy. No caffeine is tough so far and I’m only on day 3. My Saturday pre-competition cup of coffee is going to send me throught the roof. Just wanted to warn everyone.
September 7th, 2010 at 3:50 pm
I here you Kirk. I am on day 3 of no caffeine and day 1 of no caffeine while working. My head is pounding and I just realized I am not being very nice at work. Watch out everyone!!!

Do you know what that is? That is the closest Carvel to Albany CrossFit and it’s the route I’m taking as soon as we’re eliminated where I will purchase the following:
1 Large Vanilla Milkshake
1 Large Chocolate Milkshake
1 Large Strawberry Milkshake
3 Straws

“3 straws”… i’m actually laughing out loud.
