CFW Daily

nofancytitletodayjustnateNate.

No big words today, no expansive thoughts. No ramblings, no ruminations, no stories.

Just hard work ahead. And some simple questions: How are you going to deal with that work? How are you going to meet life today? Are you going to embrace it? Grasp it? Run with it? Or are you going to cover up, hunker down, and decide that you’re finished before you start? Decide that you’re never going to get that snatch, never going to lift that bar, never going to get that pull-up. Decide that trying is just not worth it.

Our lives are decided in the small moments. Decide to live. Decide to grow. Decide to change. Decide to try. Because if you decide that you’re beaten before you even start, then you really are. And that’s a shame, because life can be pretty glorious if you just try. Breathe. Lift. Live.

SCHEDULE ALERT: Competitor WODs this week are TONIGHT at 7pm, FRIDAY at 5pm, and SAT at 11am. Please make note of these changes! (The Friday 5pm class is now changed from a Team workout to the Competitors Workout. This is a permanent change. As always, there is no 6pm class on Fridays.) Keep your ears open for more schedule changes coming up as we transition from summertime into fall.

Yahhh! That’s me! I picked a good day to wear my new outfit.

Bear was rough. Fun though, certainly challenging, ‘different’ even – it has a very different vibe to it over the typical chaos of a more “standard” CrossFit WOD.

I found the toughest part was getting bar *gently* down from overhead. My back and thighs are mighty fubar-ed right now. Grip was starting to go when things got a bit heavier (and sweatier). My scribbles are unreadable there, but I failed on my 6th push jerk @115 – during round 4. I redid round 4 at 105 and never got around to round 5.

Looking forward to giving this one another go! Good job all!

Nate & 6pmers, Nice job last night!!

That one was certainly fun last night. I forgot to post my loads (hehe) because I’m trying to be more diligent in keeping my log book as well as the fact that I took my sweet time and was in danger of infringing on the 6pm class. I was quite happy with last night for two reasons; First, I increased 30 pounds since last time we did this on 3/15/10, Second, I had actually recorded a workout and was able to use that information to better approach the next attempt.

On 3/15/10 my weights were as follows:
    45, 75, 95, 105, 115

    Yesterday:
    75, 105, 115, 135, (long rest) 145

I think I could have gone heavier as the limiting portion of the movement was the Push Jerk and then the challenge of getting the weight to the ground without dropping it. I had all but worn out my wrists both in terms of muscle fatigue and the strain from accepting the bar in the in front rack position. Would it be a wise approach to the workout next time if I were to stay at a lower wait for the first three rounds then make a big jump in round four to attempt a PR while still fresh then expect to fail on the fifth? For instance: 45, 75, 105, 145-155, then go for as many rounds of 155-165. Or is that kind of cheating?

PS. The back of my neck is killing me.

The bear looks rough. I’ve still never done it. I guess the closest thing is that triplet with dead lifts into cleans into jerks. That’s a brutal workout as well. Maybe I’ll meet the bear one day.

  5. Chris Says:

Ditto on the difficulty of this one.
    Ditto on the sore neck.

  6. Brian Says:

“Only the hard, only the strong can call themselves Spartan.” I couldn’t resist when I saw the title of this post.

@ Berry, the back of my neck is killing me too. My shoulders just don’t bend in that direction to get the bar from an overhead to the back. I was pretty much using all tricepts to try and lower the bar.

As a Spartan, I pick who can call themselves me… Nate can. lol
