CFW Daily

menmenmenKirk coaches a manly 6pm class.

Recovery. It’s something you’re going to do after class and, as with anything in life, you can either do it well or you can suck at it. You can either learn what you should or should not put into your body, when you should consume something, how much you should sleep . . . or you can just not pay any attention at all to that stuff.

But I can guarantee you that if you learn what your body needs for nutrition and rest, you’re going to feel better and perform better.

Here’s the hard part though: Everyone is different. So we can’t give you an exact magic formula on what to eat and how much to sleep. We can guide you, but you — YOU — have to try and learn. Experiment. Keep what’s useful and discard what doesn’t work for you.

Go over to the CrossFit Journal and watch this video on post-workout nutrition. The trainers are talking about recovery — what works for them with regards to nutrition and what doesn’t. Keep in mind while watching that they all have different body types and different goals — so their needs and results differ, depending on whether they’re seeking to build muscle, lean out, or maintain.

Talk to your coaches. Make a plan. Try it for a few weeks or a month. See if you like the results. Adjust, readjust, find your way. Just like life.

Kirk totally killed it last night! Way to be!!

    BAM!!!

Testosterone Tuesday rocked! I don’t want to mention what those guys did to poor Helen, but it wasn’t pretty. She’ll never be the same again. I was talking to Rich and Becky and we figure the total run for our version of Helen must be about a mile, instead of 3/4 of a mile, because of the two hallways and stairs we have. No matter though, I think we’re even more tough because of it, especially when you use the 2-pood KB like Derek did.

  3. Nathan Says:

Definitely a fun one last night. Kirk rocked the house!

I measured the distance from the double gray doors to the start line in the parking lot and I think it was 173 feet which is about 53 Meters so every run down and back up adds 106 Meters to the prescribed 400. So yesterdays run was 1518 Meters or .943 miles if you assume the distance from the line to the telephone pole is 200 meters which is correct according to google earth

This is what I live with…

    He’s just a little OCD

Helen was a good time, she kicked my butt a little but i was able to finish!! Kirk and Mikey are great motivators!! Thanks again for the support… Crossfit games 2012 here i come!!!

I more than a little OCD.

I checked Google Earth and the 200 meter and 400 meter marks are spot-on but the fire hydrant we’ve been using as the 800 meter and half mile mark is actually 870 meters. 800 meters would be right in the middle of the entrance to the VFW and an even half mile would be about 5 meters beyond that (though I don’t think we differentiate). Now, I’m not complaining about a little more running because I sure could use the practice but because I love adding numbers I wanted to figure out how much extra we ran during Murph. Both runs of Murph were actually 2*2*(53+800+70) or 3692 meters while the prescribed run should have been 2*2*805[actual mile] or 3220 meters. This resulted in an extra 472 meters or .29 miles which is not insignificant in terms of impact on time of completion. Presume that you’re running at a 10 minute per mile pace which is about as fast as I’m going to go during Murph. An additional .29 miles would add 2.9 or 2:54 minutes to your total time for the WOD. I find this slightly disappointing because it still doesn’t get me under 1 hour but at least I got to do some math.

    Take that OCD!

I just posted that and realized the irony of being OCD and letting the sentence “I more than a little OCD.” get past my Internal Grammar Nazi filter.

  9. beery Says:

Or did I mean “I’m just posted that.”

  10. K Says:

lol.. OMG Barry… I just about fell off my chair just now lol

  11. Nathan Says:

    Outstanding work!

  12. Brian Says:

I think we should build rope climb outside the window instead of using the stairs. I don’t think Lizs landlord would like it but I say let’s give it a shot!

  13. Lisbeth Says:

Just jump, Brian. We’ll tie a sheet around your neck just like when you were five and thought you could make it off the roof into that big pile of leaves.

(Oh — and Beery, even your corrected sentence had what some would consider wayward punctuation . . . I’m just sayin’ . . .)

  14. Beery Says:

The world would be a happier place without commas. He ain’t no friend of mine.

  15. melissa Says:

How about a fire pole to slide down out the window and a rope to climb back in…now that would make for some AWESOME WODS!!!!

  16. Nathan Says:

A zip line would be pretty cool too.

Or even a big foam pit we can jump into.

    Jetpacks even.
