Migs, Anita, Becky, and Sue, after finishing the Pat Griskus Sprint Triathlon.
People surprise you. Look at Becky here. She just finished the triathlon by herself and finished third in her class. And she was having a bad week. Quite honestly, she didn’t look great and we were all worried about her. Some of us hoped she would pull out of the tri. But we knew not to ask her, because she’s not that kind of girl.
Since Day One of her CrossFit Life, Becky has been the most determined member of CrossFit Watertown. She simply won’t quit. Not on anything. I half expect some days to come in and find Jen holding Becky down and Melissa prying the barbell from her fingers. I swear if we put a bed in the back room, she would live there, like Morgan Freeman in Million Dollar Baby. But her husband Barry might not like that.
See, he CrossFits too. And Becky’s mom Cheryl and her dad Ray. They get it. They understand why Becky has to do what she has to do — and they support her in everything she does. That’s pretty cool. Imagine having that kind of team on your side. The Family of Awesomeness.
Oh — and Becky writes our newsletter too. (With help from Barry!) And she’ll do the White Girl Dance if you ask her to — but only on a break between rounds, because once the clock starts again, watch out — she’s got work to do.
So three cheers for our gal Becky — she reminds us all of what we can accomplish if we just never, ever give up.
P.S. Becky — take today off. Please.

Becky, That was awesome!!! and all you Tri’s, Sue, Migs, Anita great job.
July 8th, 2010 at 8:07 am
Saying that Becky has gumption is an understatement. Pretty damn badass. Outstanding job on the tri! All of you! Sorry I couldn’t stick around for the finish
Chris in the background of that photo is cracking me up. Well, at least to the casual observer: “there is some dude with a crazed look in the background of your photo?”

Awesome job everyone!!!! It’s inspiring to be there and watch you all. Becky, once again, I’m so proud of you!
Lis, she’s planning on going to the 7pm class tonight. Lock the door and turn the lights off!

Sometimes when we’re lifting I stop and just watch Becky do her thing because she’s such an inspiration to me that it makes me wanna do what she does the next time I step up to that bar. Thanks for being so badass Becky!!

Also Nate, I just spotted a sit down pizza hut in Groton… Just thought you might want to know.
July 8th, 2010 at 10:02 am
Awesome job on the triathalon guys!!! …And in that heat too…whew…
Becky so proud of you…3rd in your class….just fantastic!!! You are a coaches dream…you have the most heart, spirit, and determination of anyone I have ever met. You tackle every WOD with everything you have, take cues and corrections when given, and never ever give up or quit. Sometimes I worry that Jen and I may have to tackle you and pry away the barbell…but no worries we will make sure we keep you safe and healthy, you keep showing up with the fire in your eyes and kicking butt!! You rock girl!
July 8th, 2010 at 10:17 am
Yay Becky!!!
All you guys did great last night.
Though I must admit that we were getting a bit worried about Becky at an hour and twenty when we didn’t see her come in on the bike. Turns out we just didn’t see her and we all made it over for her finish.
@Nate, that’s the first thing I noticed in that photo.

Thank you for all the kind words. The griskus is always fun but all the cfw supporters makee it even better! As Rayray pointed out last night after the race – at what other gym would members drive out of their way to cheer you on, would the owner come to make sure everyone finished safely, and would the members go out to eat and celebrate together afterwards. only at cfw. you guys rock. thanks for making me strong.
July 8th, 2010 at 11:37 am

By the way…
The Women’s triathalon in Farmington is Sunday, Sept. 12th…
I’m doing it…. Becky and Anita are thinking of doing it as a team (they need a biker…)
Cheryl wants to run and she’s looking for a swimmer and a biker…
Anyone else want to put together a team???? Do it now before its sold out!
July 8th, 2010 at 12:19 pm
Great job guys!! I love when Becky puts on her mean face when we are doing lifting WODS. You have to think of Becky anytime you see our CFW slogan”I will not be broken.”

Okay. I just signed up for the Women’s Tri. Although I only love the cycling portion, I have to do the entire thing because the swim scares me and I hate the run. I am so messed up.
Cyclists and swimmers . . . hmmm, Jen is a cyclist, Jill is a swimmer, I’m thinking Pam could do either, and Rockstar would look great in cycling gear . . . who else am I missing? Mary? Can you swim?

July 8th, 2010 at 12:39 pm
But I could have been there.
July 8th, 2010 at 12:39 pm
In fact, I could do anything.

You know, you can entertain yourself for hours by replacing all the words to popular songs with cat meows. Go ahead, try it. I’ll wait.

July 8th, 2010 at 12:44 pm
27 did I count that right?
July 8th, 2010 at 12:46 pm
41 total. If I can get to 59, that puts this post on the leaderboard to the right.
July 8th, 2010 at 12:46 pm
They use leaderboards in NASCAR and golf. These sports do not seem to be related in any other way.

Way. Weigh. Weigh and measure. You should weigh and measure your food if you are on the Zone. Nice segue, huh?
July 8th, 2010 at 12:48 pm
Segue. Segway. One is a tool for thought movement, the other is a tool for human movement.

“When is disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes, I all alone beweep my outcast state . . .”
Which Shakespeare sonnet is that from? NO GOOGLING! Everything from memory . . .
July 8th, 2010 at 12:50 pm
Let’s talk about Becky again, shall we?
July 8th, 2010 at 12:51 pm
Oh man, I CANNOT segue “shall we” . . . perhaps I should rhyme instead.
July 8th, 2010 at 12:53 pm
