Attitude Adjustment

CFW Daily

platewalksandcoolmatt20-somethings Jillian and Rachael face off in a plate-walk duel while Matt just looks cool.

Sometimes, I bitch too much. Like this morning. From the start of the warm-up to the end of strength portion, nothing seemed right to me. Only when I heard “3-2-1-Go!” and the metcon started, did anything seem to happen as it should. But you know what? It was all fine — it was just me that was off, that creaked a little too much, that felt a little too old and a little too tired. The coaches did a great job — it was my head that wasn’t right.

Life can get a little odd that way in your 40′s — you have to deal with the fact that you can’t always keep up with the 20-somethings or 30-whatevers. You might not realize it in the moment, but your attitude needs adjusting. It’s your age that you have to deal with — and you shouldn’t make everyone else deal with it or adjust to it. They’ve got their own sh** to deal with too.

And then someone said something to me that kind of made me stop and think: “Out of all the CrossFit gyms I’ve been to, this one has more kick-ass women in their 40′s than anyplace.”

That’s pretty cool, when you think about it. Some of us aren’t young bucks anymore, but we’re still kicking ass. I’ll take that. And maybe some duct tape around my mouth during the next workout. So what if my knee creaks and my hamstring is throbbing. I need to just tackle the thing in front of me and then the next thing too. Time to stop complaining and start doing. Life is way too short to waste it on the bad kind of moaning.

SCHEDULE ALERT: “Murph” tomorrow at 9am. Come one, come all — even from other affiliates. If your gym is closed on the 4th of July, you can join us for free and make it through “Murph.” Also, a lot of folks have Monday off, so we’ll be holding classes ONLY at 9AM and NOON on Monday. (No 6am, 5pm, or 6pm on Monday.) Sorry for the short notice — if it’s a hardship, contact Jen and we’ll see what we can do to help you out.

if my mom hasn’t read this post yet, she has to. some days she seems defeated because she doesn’t feel as strong or as “good” as some of the other crossfitters at CFW. it’s then when i have to remind her that she’s almost sixty years old! hell, i haven’t seen anyone kick as much @$$ as my mom does. she is one of the strongest people in my opinion because she is still trying to better herself despite how tired or sore or achy she may feel from the insane process of “getting older”. how many people, when they are nearly sixty, can say that they just pulled a tire across a parking lot today… or they did fifty burpees… or flipped a tire. NOT A LOT. i mean c’mon people, she’s “iron mary”, nothing can break her… except maybe burpees :)

I am a 20-something that hopes to god i am as kickass as every single female 30, 40, 50, 60-something at CFW. You are all amazing and it’s inspiring to WOD with you each and every day!

I LOVE MARY! She’s my hero! And I don’t tell her that enough!
I also love that at 42 I can do more than I could in my teens, 20′s OR 30′s…. how frikin’ crazy is that? I’ll take whatever you can throw at me with a smile! Age is just a number…isn’t that what they say? Whoo rah for the “old” crossfittin’ babes!

It’s funny because I always seem to forget “ages” here at the gym…so many strong kick ass women, keeping up and often BEATING the 20/30 somethings. Coming from a PT clinic where its usually the opposite, 40/50/60 somethings that have done nothing to care for thier bodies…EVERYONE can and should be crossfitting no matter what their age or situation!! Thank you to all of the CFW ladies young and old who keep pushing hard…longevity is the goal and I hope to kicking ass and taking names years to come in the Masters competitiion! You gals rock!!
