CFW Daily

rowingcertboatJen on the water at the CrossFit Rowing Certification in Stowe, VT.

When’s the last time you took the skills you learned at CrossFit and applied them to your life? Probably this morning. (Think about it . . .)

Anyhow, this weekend Jen spent a day on the erg, learning to be a better rowing coach — and a day on the water, learning to apply those erg skills to a sport. Kind of cool.

And now, CrossFit Watertown has multiple coaches certified by CrossFit in so many disciplines, it’s staggering:

Rowing, Gymnastics, Olympic Lifting, Basic Barbell, Nutrition, Movement and Mobility, and CrossFit Kids.

In addition, we have coaches who hold certifications from CrossFit Football and CrossFit Endurance — and we’ll be sending more coaches soon to those certifications, as well as the newly revamped CrossFit Nutrition Certification and the CrossFit Coach’s Prep Course.

And that doesn’t even count all the CrossFit Level Ones we have among staff and members! (Or all the other seminars — Strongman, more Olympic lifting, etc. — Or all the Physical Therapy knowledge that Melissa brings to CFW!) Lots of knowledge, lots of experience — take advantage of it all!

(For an example of Melissa’s influence spreading in the CrossFit community, watch “Stretching for the Squat” by Jon Gilson at Again Faster.)

Its funny you say that. I was getting ready to take up a Tandem Skydiving student the other day and he asked me if I would have a problem lifting him up.

When making a tandem jump you need to support the weight of your student while standing in the door. It’s only for a few seconds but it is sort of like a dead lift. We do this so the student don’t grab on to anything prior to the jump. They just hang from their harness that is attached to you with a 50lbs parachute on your back.

So the guy only weighed 150lbs and I had a hard time not laughing and explaining to him that I won’t have a problem.

Brian wins Coolest Story of the Day!

    (Nate, don’t even try.)

    Although K might make a run for the title, I suspect . . .

I guess I won’t elaborate on my boring ass story about lifting big rocks (with perfect dead lift form) while doing yard work yesterday. Thanks for ruining everything with your story Brian! I am looking forward to a K response, though.

Well, I gotta try at least? Yup, it is funny you should mention cool stories… cuz this one happened a little while back, but I think it is still relevant:

So… I’m rappelling down Mount Vesuvius when suddenly I slip, and I start to fall.

    Just falling, ahh ahh!

    I’ll never forget the terror.

When suddenly I realize “Holy s@#t, Nate, haven’t you been smoking Peyote for six straight days, and couldn’t some of this maybe be in your head?

    And it was.

    I was totally fine.

I’ve never even been to Mount Vesuvius.

  7. Sue Loz Says:

how those pain meds treatin’ you, my friend?

  8. Nathan Says:

Only did the vicodins for day one. Been on tylenol ever since.

I can tell you this though: spicy vege chili was a poor choice for lunch today.

    See you tonight?

  9. Beery Says:

Well, I was piloting my Lunar Rover on the moon’s surface when a mechanical failure caused the right front brake to lock up and sent the Rover tumbling. Buzz was knocked unconscious and we were running low on 02 so I had to act fast and right the vehicle. Now, the Rover only weighs about 500 pounds on Earth but with payload and passenger it was closer to a ton. I wasn’t about to jeopardize a whole mission and jettison the surface samples we were sent up to collect so I had to do what could best be described as a 1 ton tire flip. I know, I know it was only about 300 lbs. in lunar gravity but with my EVA suit it was still no easy task. Needless to say, I’m back, Buzz is recovering and the surface samples are being studied as we speak.

What did you guys do this weekend?

  10. Beery Says:

    haha I wrote “zero”2
