Melissa has been with us since the start of CrossFit Watertown — since the days when we used to experiment with crazy stuff in our garage, back before we were a CrossFit affiliate. Back when only the neighbors knew we were nuts. My son used to look at the workouts designed for Melissa and say, “Mom, you’re going to finally break her.” But I never could. Everything we threw at her, she did. Every experiment we tried, she finished. Every time we thought, “This is it. Surely she’s going to burst into tears and never come back” — she completed the WOD and asked for more. Most days, we’re amazed she still speaks to us.
Along the way, she became a CrossFit trainer. The first trainer we hired. She even had a baby and CrossFitted all the way through her pregnancy, doing her last WOD 12 hours before delivery. That’s her baby in the playpen behind her. He’s not even two and Melissa has worked herself into the best shape of her life. Oh — and she works full-time as a physical therapist too.
Melissa is one tough woman.
And, tomorrow, she will compete in the CrossFit Games New England Sectionals and we’re headed down to cheer her on. Sat and Sun morning classes are canceled and the caravan leaves from the CrossFit Watertown parking lot at 7am tomorrow. Be there and be wearing your CrossFit Watertown gear.
Our girl’s headed into competition. Nobody can break her. We love you, Melissa. Go rock the house.
(For those of you who can’t make it to Milford this weekend, try to make it to Jules Salon for her fashion show on Sun at 1pm, featuring our own CrossFit Watertown models — Jackie, Anita, and Becky!)

I would say “Good Luck” Meliss but, you know what luck is? Luck, “When Preparation meets Opportunity”
You WILL Rock it!!!

Everyone can use a bit of luck. Good luck, Melis!!
One last piece of advice:
Get plenty of rest tonight. Don’t sacrifice sleep in order to eat a pre race meal 3 hours before the start. Eat a high quality meal tonight and get an adequate amount of sleep. Have about 100-200 calories of something easily digested about 20 minutes before the start if you feel you need something.

Melis, I’ve seen how you have prepared for this competition, and it has inspired me. You’ve done everything you needed to do…..EVERYTHING. No need to be nervous. It’s in you. And, we’ll see all of those skills on display this weekend. I’ll be there cheering you on, along with the awesome crew at CFW, and we’ll do whatever you need as we go. You make your husband and son very proud!!

I thought this was a good quote for Melissa:
“Be regular and orderly in your life so that you may be violent and original in your work.”
Gustave Flaubert
Basically…train consistiently so that you can be an animal at sectionals!

Sue, awesome quote!
March 19th, 2010 at 12:57 pm

Just run like a Rican with a stolen TV on his back and lift like hell…
March 19th, 2010 at 6:27 pm
Note: Rockstar brings the Rican magic to that statement.
I’d say run like a Lithuanian with an overdue library book, but somehow that doesn’t sound as tough.
March 19th, 2010 at 6:46 pm
hmmm.. run like a Greek boy in a crowd of Greek soldiers??
March 19th, 2010 at 10:48 pm
Note: K brings the Greek magic to that statement.
Run like Jen with a bottle of bourbon?
March 20th, 2010 at 12:01 am
Melis, over here they would say you were ‘Bad as’ Kick some ass!
March 20th, 2010 at 12:08 am
I wanted to wish you luck Melissa, make sure you have fun out there. Today I started regretting that I didnt register. Unlike yourself I dont feel I am ready but the experience alone would have made everything worth while. Good luck and I am sure you will have everyone from CFW competeing with you next year.
March 20th, 2010 at 5:55 pm
Melissa came out of today ranked 15th! She completely rocked the first WOD coming in 2nd in her heat! It was truly inspiring to watch her gut out the second WOD with a ripped hand!
Good Luck tomorrow Meliss!
