Barry and Pam on the rowers during Tabata Fun last night.
Time to play “What Can We Learn From This Photo?”
I’ll start: Pam has textbook handle position in the Finish Position. (In fact, both she and Barry have nice technique. Figure out what else they’re doing well or what could use improvement.)
The handle should finish about 1- 2″ above your belly button (like seen here.) Any higher is not an optimal use of your energy.
In other news, just because we’re talking about rowing doesn’t mean we’re done running this year! Remember to bring your hats and gloves on cold days because we’re going to be hitting the pavement until the snow and ice make for unsafe footing. Only then will we start rowing ourselves into hibernation.
Also, we’re ordering a box of rowing logcards and will soon announce The If We Have to Live in a Frozen Tundra, We Might as Well Get Really Good at Rowing Wintertime Challenge. If you want to join, you’ll be able to buy a card and track all your meters towards some kind of prize or kewpie doll or lapdance or something. Details to follow.
Reminder: EC’s Snatch Clinic is SOLD OUT! No mas, por favor! We’re out of room, we’re out of coaches, but we’re not out of love! (Okay, just had to throw that in.) Honestly, it’s to the point that we almost need a live webcam. Snatch fever is a powerful thing.
SCHEDULE ALERT: Due to the Snatchorama starting at 9am on Saturday, our regularly scheduled 9am Sat class will be held at 8am. It’s starting on time and ending by 8:45, so be ready — Jen’s teaching the class so anything could happen!

I’m leaning back too far and I usually bring the handle up to my nipples (hehe, nipples) just because my belly gets in the way.
What’s in store for the evening? I’m thinking of a rest day but I don’t want to miss out on something awesome.

I think I’m leaning back too far as well. Interesting since at the rowing seminar I was told I did not lean back enough. Also, I think I should raise my elbows so that my forearms are more horizontal. Photos are a great learning tool.
If we win the rowing challenge, do we get to pick which CFW member gives us the lapdance?
November 18th, 2009 at 10:32 am
I don’t Row, so how can I win a lap dance? I’ll do just about anything.
November 18th, 2009 at 10:35 am
Ray Ray and Beery will be providing all lap dances.

ha ha ha… I love reading the comments on the CFW blog. Berry said nipples. The good laugh I needed before leaving the hotel room to head out to the client site. The weather might be sunny and nice here in SoCal but the customer is down right hostile.
I can’t believe there was a rowing post on technique and the stick figure YouTube video didn’t make an appearance. I miss that little stick figure guy.
Tooner out

I don’t see much wrong with their rowing positions. Yeah, maybe slightly far back, and of course I don’t know what I am talking about, but I think it is within limits. The only thing I would almost say is maybe on beery’s foot pad his heels should be kicked up a notch? I dunno, they look low for some reason to me? They do both have the 1000 yard rowing stare so something must be going right!
Ugh. Count me in for the rowing challenge. I was planning on trying that concept2 holiday challenge again this year anyways (granted they are doing it).

Nice point on the “foot stretchers” for Beery, Nate! The strap should ideally be over the ball of your foot, not your toes.
As for tonight’s fun — it’s Press and Push Press. We need to work some technique issues for the Press, in particular. Beery, your Press is pretty good, so I would recommend a Rest Day. We’ve got a traveling guest headed our way tomorrow that you will want to match up against, trust me — and you’ll want to be springtime fresh for that.

Oh — and the mini-metcon is one of my all-time favorites. So delicious.

I was thinking about a rest day as well but I don’t know if my press is good enough. Also, i think Jen somehow swapped shoulders with me. Her’s seems better and suddenly mine is jacked up.
November 18th, 2009 at 2:03 pm
ok.. im with Jen.. rowing isn’t really for me, how ELSE can I get some of these RayRay/Beery lapdances???
November 18th, 2009 at 2:05 pm
People, people, I’m disappointed. It’s 2pm and there are no comments yet about Barry’s sartorial splendor nor have we dwelled enough on Pam to make her uncomfortable.
You folks are slipping . . .

Sigh… I shall pick up the slack:
You are doomed, forsake all hope! Your head is a boil, you suck worms, I hate your feeeeeet! Red ants shall devour your eyes while snakes constrict your bowels and a burning, flaking rash shall form all over your… Your liver will explode, and your brain will swim in bile and goblins will feast on your buttocks. Your gums will become diseased and ulcerous and your teeth shall turn to glue… gluuuuuue!
Bonus something or nuther for whoever can id what that is from.
See y’all at 6!

It really sounds like something from monty python but my misspent youth combined with google tells me that it was from a kids in the hall skit.
What an obscure reference.

Though left off the reprise of that video…
