CFW Daily

kfrontsquatK front squats. Look at those great open hands!

There are no great words today. No inspiration, no motivation, no pontification from me. Instead, it’s you.

Post your favorite CrossFit Watertown memory to Comments. Maybe it was a PR? Or a missed lift? Or the day you conquered a fear? It can be big, or small. Many big lessons in life are learned in the small moments. Maybe it was the day that someone said something you needed to hear. Or the day that Jen taught class naked. (That didn’t really happen. Just seeing if anybody is paying attention.) Or it was a conversation with K while you warmed up on the rower . . .

Class, you have your assignment. If we don’t hit 50 comments today, there’s no recess for anybody. But if we make it to 50, I promise that Jen won’t make anybody yell “Bread is bad!” tomorrow.

Reminder: CrossFit Total tomorrow! Be early and be ready to go!

Favorite CrossFit Watertown memory: Well there are some that I can’t share but one or to that I can.
The first time I came to CFW to help Lis Coach and I was trying to “Help” Berry with his squat by standing behind him and very close to him while placing my hands on his hip bones pulling his butt back and down…it seemed to make him feel “funny”!

or the time Lis had her shorts on inside out.

or the time Chris hit me in the head with the PVC

Or the time Viv yelled into the bathroom…”Bye you whore”

Or the time we got drunk and Mary and I kept saying we loved each other

Or the time I Toons Kid puked on me.

Or the time when I made a lot of friends that I love very much!

    Jen

  2. Nathan Says:

I will NEVER forget my first class when Sue, Rich and Mary handed me my ass during a kettlebell cards workout. That was amazing on so many levels… near death being one of them. My 20+ minute rx’d Fran was kinda fun and a personal CF turning point for me. There is also a scar on my ankle that I can’t fully remember how I got.

But what mostly comes to mind is seeing how far everyone has come! Along with a lot of smiles and laughs.

Though Chris throwing the PVC at Jen was pretty awesome too…

  3. Pamela Says:

Melissa rocking a WOD while 9 months pregnant

Becky’s effort during her first Murph as rx’d this past 4th of July

    Viv’s kipping pull-ups

    Sue’s real push-ups

    Mary. ‘Nuff said.

    Coach G. at the 101!

    Meeting new members

Being humbled by the superior effort and character of those around me

Whenever the WOD ends with a run, someone always makes sure that the last person in never finishes alone.

The J-man peeing on me wasn’t exactly my favorite CFW moment but it was kind of funny!

  4. Dan Says:

Any of the “Grab Yo Ankles” moments with Becky will alays hold a special place in my heart.

My first kipping pullups were at CFW

Watching people grow is always amazing too…over the course of a month it seemed like Barry went from jumping pullups, to banded pullups and now he bangs out kippers like they’re nothing

But I really wish I could of seen Chris throw a PVC at Jen or Viv’s golden shower from action jackson

  5. Rockstar Says:

Well I guess one of my most inspirational moments was, one time Lis said to me after a wod, “people try to take themselves to a happy place when they are struggling, but the reality is that you have to place yourself in that dark ulgy spot in life in order to overcome anything “. I went home and the words kept resonating in my mind. I think not only it has improve my wodding but really any adversity in life that I encounter…
Next the first day I came back post injury, I was scared shitless, but with the encouragement of the members of CFW, i got through it.

  6. Chris Says:

A few favorite moments from CrossFit Watertown stick out for me. My first class with K and Becky was certainly interesting. I was in the middle of them on the rowers as they chatted back and forth (K had some choice language considering I was brand new).

A few weeks later, I did my first Filthy 50…by myself. I’ll never forget how I felt during those burpees.

Speaking of burpees, I think my all-time favorite moment for me was the day I finished the 100-day burpee challenge. It felt really awesome to finally reach the culmination of so many months of work.

Outside of regular workouts, I did my very first 5k with CFW which meant a lot to me. I also really enjoyed the grab bag/holiday party from last year and the CF 101 and ensuing madness that followed the next day.

Oh, and that time I threw a PVC pipe full force at Jen’s head was pretty funny.

  7. sueloz Says:

*Naked overhead squats with Dan and Katherine.
*Melissa doing handstand push ups at nine months pregnant.
*Watching Lis coach 20 people crammed into the old box and knowing that her dream was becoming a reality before her own eyes.
*Melissa dressed up like Richard Simmons…Kirk dressed up like a pregnant Melissa.
*Watching Mary kick ass on a daily basis.
    *Laughing, laughing, laughing!

The rest of my best memories are “firsts”:
first sit-up, first 5K, first box jump, first 2 minute row, first time I didn’t finish a WOD last, first triathalon, first time I cried during a WOD, first handstand…I could go on for days. I remember all the firsts. They’re all important to me.

The most important first, however, was the first day I worked out with Lis; my first WOD. I’ll never forget that moment because I don’t ever want to forget what I looked like and I don’t ever want to go back to being that way again. That day is the day it all changed for me. That’s my favorite CrossFit moment.

  8. K Says:

Well in order to get to 50, I’m gonna post some of these 1 at a time lol

My first “class” was intresting… I walked in to TALK to Lis about CF and joining CFW. Becky was finishing her last fundementals class I believe…. Lis started to talk about CF then said, “hey, you wanna just start now??” so being afraid of her- I said yes… 10 mins later I had to stop what i was doing (wallball)and sit cause I wanted to puke… I thought I was totally screwed. Then she said, “Hey! you should probably fill out this waiver!!”
    I was hooked! lol

  9. K Says:

I’m with Sue— all topless/naked OHS, in particular with Dan, are fav’s on the list…

    Also, Sue’s 1st 5k was my 1st 5k since I ran in high school… that was a great day too….

  10. K Says:

OMG… the first time I saw Becky do a lil cabbage patch dancing… that still makes me laugh

  11. K Says:

Our memorial day challenge!!! that was the 1st time i met Jill! she didn’t care she just jumped in with flip-flops on! good times.

  12. K Says:

Also the Memorial day challenge was the birth of our “Dirty Women” team… Nate is a great team mate, even if he sweats so much it’s hard to hold his feet down! lol

  13. Lisbeth Says:

    LOL These are great!

But I just want to note for the record that it was only one time that I wore my shorts inside out. A girl’s gotta move fast in this life, you know?

So many fantastic memories. With all I’ve put you guys through, I’m always amazed that any of you still talk to me.

You’ve all taught me so much — particularly to never EVER judge a book by its cover. The hearts of lions beat in so many of us. We just need to tap that courage, that drive, that spirit. It’s there, waiting, for each of us in our own way.

And if it’s not, I’ll beat it into you.

  14. Lisbeth Says:

    LOL I’M JUST KIDDING!!!!

  15. Janice Says:

Meeting Lis at that place (EF) and how that scared the sh#$ out me not knowing what the future had in store for me.

Participating in the FGB event in September.

Listening to Vanessa the other morning explaining last year she couldn’t move a wheel barrel and this year not only moved the wheel barrel but the wheel barrel was full of wood! Go Vanessa!

  16. Lisbeth Says:

    Go Vanessa!

    15 posts today?

    “Bread is bad!” (Just practicing.)

  17. becky Says:

    Memories….

The night Barry came home and said he was molested at CFW

  18. becky Says:

The first 5K – I was especially proud of Sue, Michelle, and K.

  19. Keri Says:

First of all I can’t even imagine Sue not being able to do any of the 1st she mentioned during the few times I have worked out with her she has kicked some ass.

My favorite crossfit moments, Pam telling me I’m strong, I look around and I see all these other chicks kicking ass and I feel like the little kid on the playground who can’t even kick the kickball let alone get a double, a triple or a homer and it felt good to be considered strong (though I still not sure I’m buying it). Let me just say that I was esctatic about that for days.

Every time Jen scoffs at me when I tell her that I don’t know what the movement she is talking about is (yes, I know I probably have done it 5 times before, but dang it all I just can’t remember them).

The day I decided that I wanted to have a new goal to climb the rope and Jen told me to go ahead and try and I got to the top on the first try!

My early AM class with the boys where they apparently thought they had to be chaste with their comments, I was still half asleep but I had fun anyways .

  20. becky Says:

Melissa winning the hadnstand contest 9 months pregnant

  21. becky Says:

    All the parties!

  22. becky Says:

    RayRay’s first run!

  23. becky Says:

Okay I have to leave now, otherwise I will be late for class!

  24. becky Says:

    Oh, One More —

When we found out Jen was joining us! Barry said “I told you she wanted me…”

I was just happy Jen was joining us!

  25. K Says:

BAHAHA! Barry knew Jen only had eyes for him….

Our parties do always rock… Becky’s moms pole dance was nice…

  26. K Says:

HA! Rich’s chipped tooth… that ull learn ya! lmao

  27. K Says:

OMG, Lis! Remember when I dropped my engagement ring in the slush outside?! Holy Shit that was scary… well lot of good the ring did me anyway lol

  28. Rockstar Says:

The time I ran naked around the gym doing cartwheels….ohhh wait…that was somewhere else…nevemind

  29. Barry Says:

I remember Nate’s first prescribed Fran as well, it was one of my first classes and I admired his determination. It’s fuzzy like one of the first things you can recall from childhood. One could even say it’s a preNATEal memory… Thank you, thank you, I’m here all week, tip your waitresses.

I also remember Melissa doing tons of pull-ups (I forget the workout) less than a day before giving birth.

Remember Bill? He used to be able to do like 65 or 75 pound TGUs with a barbell.

  30. melissa Says:

I still laugh out loud when I think of all the boys running out of the safe on the memorial day WOD after the lumberjack farted in Kirks face during situps…oh and the time kirk ripped his boxers during the backsquats

  31. melissa Says:

I am so amazed when I remember back at how everyone started and how far and strong you all have come…watching the transformations is just AMAZING!!

  32. melissa Says:

Not my fondest memory but getting chased by a rotty while working out in Lis’s gym probably takes the cake!

  33. K Says:

LOL.. wow Melissa! You are the 1st official CFW memory!

    Nate’s 1st un-scaled Fran… holy crap… that was amazing..

I missed the Lumberjack farting day… though I do remember the first day I saw that man grab a heavy bag n run up that hill… yummy lol

  34. Mary Says:

    My most memorable CFW moments:

K,Taylor and I doing tire flips.
Melissa kicking ass throughout her pregnancy.
Becky finishing with Ray Ray on his first running WOD.
Watching my husband WOD shirtless and sweaty.
Running a 5K and doing the Memorial Day WOD all the same weekend.
When Taylor had an asthma attack while we were doing Helen.I walked back with her to the gym and after Lis and I made sure she was OK I went on to finish it.
Sue finishing Murph this past summer.
Feeling defeated before we even started a burpee workout and ended up crying after it was over.

After not working out for a week and coming back today I remember what a great group of people we have at CFW.

  35. Lisbeth Says:

Okay, so I have a few that stick out (wait, that doesn’t sound right):

K and I deciding to try everything with our eyes closed one day. Presses were okay and push presses. Push jerks were freaky. I managed to keep all my teeth during the pull-ups but neither one of us could manage a single wall-ball, no matter how light the ball was. It just kept hitting us in the face and we just kept trying! LOL

I remember back in the “Garage Days” waking up in a cold sweat one night because I was afraid that I had killed Melissa and Jessica with too many squats. I honestly didn’t know enough about programming way back then! Often, I am amazed that Melissa didn’t slug me a time or two. Every night, I would make up the workout and my boy J would look at it with me, shake his head and say “You’re going to break her this time.” Amazingly, she never did break. That is a testament to Melissa and her fortitude.

Running Sue’s first 400 meters with her. Probably the best run of my life.

And the moment that started it all: Mary, back in the “Bad Gym”, when I told her I was quitting there. She said “What are we going to do?” and I said “Work out in my garage?” and she said “Okay. Let’s do that.” Look at what you started, Mary . . .

  36. jen Says:

Watching Sue do her Tri and being crazy proud of her!

  37. jen Says:

Watching Keri climb the rope and being like shit, that’s cool!

Seeing the huge gains Viv and Rockstar have made.

  38. jen Says:

Walking into CFW when I first moved here and feeling at home.

  39. jen Says:

The very frist time I trained Janice at 6am, man she had no idea what hit her!

  40. Lisbeth Says:

Being left for dead by Melissa, Kirk, Nate, and Sue at the end of my Rowing Murph! Yes, I still remember and will pull that out every chance I get!

  41. jen Says:

Watching Jackson grow up in the CFW Box, playing with him on the floor and making him scream so much that everyone want to kill me….but I don’t care cuz your only 1 once lets make the most of it!

  42. Lisbeth Says:

I am going to kill you if he keeps screaming.

  43. Lisbeth Says:

Seriously, he’s a blast. Jackson’s got a start in life that probably most of us wish we had.

  44. Nathan Says:

Well, these are somewhat outside of CrossFit, but it is little known that Big D and I have had many adventures together. Unfortunately I was always the one behind the camera!

Here Derek is whitewater rafting! Class 4! He da man!

  45. Nathan Says:

Then there was the time we got miniaturized so we could enter the bloodstream of the President to battle rogue white blood cells!

  46. Nathan Says:

At the race track! That boy is trouble on out there, he dropped the hammer early and never let up!

  47. Nathan Says:

I kinda thought the Blue Man Group was a good fit, but they didn’t pay that well. Fun for a few shows at least?

  48. Lisbeth Says:

LOL Nate is the king! You know there’s nothing I love more than Photoshopping!

  49. Lisbeth Says:

Well, I mean there are things. Or people. Um, I think I just got myself in trouble again.

  50. Dan Says:

lol @ Big D in the blue man group
