Not every day is a PR day
. You just can’t set new Personal Records every single day.
And, in a way, you wouldn’t want to.
That would be like having sunshine and good weather every single day. Eventually, you get sick of it. Really, you do. I’ve lived everywhere, from Southern California to the subtropical island of Okinawa, Japan and, believe me, your brain needs the occasional rainstorm almost as much as the environment needs that moisture. You get sick of sunshine and warm weather when it’s there every single day. Psychologically, you need the rain. You need the down days. You need the bad, you need the rotten. You need the suck.
It’s the only way to really appreciate the sunshine, the warm rays on your skin, the feel of the wind tickling your bare arms. The only way to really appreciate the PR is to go through the suck.
You have to earn the PR — and that’s not just through the actual act itself. You earn it by going through the suck.
We’re about to start the season of winter here in the Northeast. It won’t be easy. It never is. Cold, ice, and snow are coming our way. That’s the suck. But you know what? Spring will come again, and summer. And we will appreciate them more because of this winter.
So, bring on the suck — both in the gym and in the weather. We’re ready for it. We know that sunshine lies on the other side.

November 4th, 2009 at 7:14 am
oh, also- BAM!
November 4th, 2009 at 7:19 am
Lis you do not even know how much those words were needed today! THANK YOU
November 4th, 2009 at 8:05 am
Ha! I love this. Such a great post. And “Bring on the suck” is not a bad mantra for the beginning of a workout!
November 4th, 2009 at 8:08 am
Dang it! I had to repost because I had a typo in my website URL. Don’tcha love that? What a ding-dong!
Anyway… I wanted to point y’all to a post I wrote last week about being comfortable with being uncomfortable. http://theclothesmakethegirl.blogspot.com/2009/10/being-comfortable-with-being.html
Great minds think alike… I love how we’re all finding different ways to convey that really important message: you’ve gotta give yourself over to this stuff being hard — REALLY hard — to keep getting better.
If only we were comfortable being complacent and squishy
Oh! And sorry for the double post action.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:38 am
Hey Melissa — thanks for visiting our blog! Nice post on your blog too!
And, I just want to point out to the CF Watertown members that the blog sat unprotected for SEVEN hours this morning! 7! Power Barners or (worse) Tooner could have had their way with us. Oh, the horror.
November 4th, 2009 at 9:47 am
Hail Hail Embrace the Suck;)
November 4th, 2009 at 10:12 am
Did Nate ever get that anti-Toon filter up and running? I’ll have to talk to him about that.
November 4th, 2009 at 10:17 am
Toon Filter LOL!!! sounds like a Sat. morning TV show.
Great post Lis. We just strive for more “good days” than “suck days” keep-up the pushing.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:19 am
It’s interesting…the suck days, the non-PR days are the ones that motivate me more than the good ones…I find myself saying, “I don’t ever want to do that bad again!” And that thought sits there in the back of my head until the next time, motivating me…goading me…taunting me…That’s what makes me try harder; refusing to be as bad, as slow or as weak as the last time. And then when I finally do get another PR (sometimes it takes FOREVER!)the reward is that much better because I’ve silenced the voice in my head that tries to tell me I can’t.
Yes. I hear voices in my head.
November 4th, 2009 at 11:25 am
@ Sue, I thought I heard voices coming out of your head last night while I was standing next to you…good to know it’s not just me!
November 4th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
7 hrs! Crap! Talk about bringing on the suck. I was too busy resting… well trying to rest as much as you can in our house… to get up and WOD with the 6 am crew. All I can say is that tomorrow is a rest day in every sense of the word.
Toon-Filter… Tooner having his way with CFW blog… Bring on the suck… I’m with K on this one… “ahhh where to go with this today??? lol”
November 4th, 2009 at 12:56 pm
I have no idea what you’re talking about. I’m just a good Catholic schoolgirl.
November 4th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
Good Catholic schoolgirls bringin on the suck… OMG- I totally know that movie! you are tooooo dirty Lis !! lol
I do apologize for the time the blog was unprotected… 12 is right when I’m usually hittin my prime too….. too bad I was sleep @ like 1030 lmao
November 4th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
Really, K. I’m not the kind who gets spanked. I’m so lost here.
November 4th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
If I can be Nate for a second. Lis’s post reminds me of a song. Originally, I was thinking Leslie Gore’s Sunshine and Loli Pops, but I think the Brady Bunch is more on point:
I think I’ll go for a walk outside now
the summer sun’s callin’ my name
(I hear ya now)
I just can’t stay inside all day
I gotta get out get me some of those rays
everybody’s smilin’
sunshine day
everybody’s laughin’
sunshine day
everybody seems so happy today…
It’s a sunshine day
I think I’ll go for a walk out side now
the summer sun knows me by name
he’s callin’ me
I gotta get out, gotta get out, gotta get away
I gotta get away, get away, get away, get away
Into the sunshine day….
Cant you dig the sunshine
Love and sun are the same
Cant you hear him callin’ your name?
Oh, I think I’ll take a walk everyday now
the summer sun has show the way to be happy now
I just cant stay inside all day
I gotta get out get me some of those rays
everybody’s smilin’
sunshine day
everybody’s laughin’
sunshine day
everybody seems so happy today
It’s a sunshine day
Cant you dig the sunshine
Love and sun are the same
Cant you hear him callin’ your name?
I think I’ll go for a walk outside now
the summer sun’s callin’ my name
I just cant stay inside all day
I gotta get out get me some of those rays
everybody’s smilin’
sunshine day
everybody’s laughin’
sunshine day
everybody seems so happy today
it’s a sunshine day
everybody’s smilin’
sunshine day
everybody’s laughin’
sunshine day
everybody seems so happy today

@ Lis- I never said jack about spanking…YOU said it! HOORRRAAYYYY 4 SPANKINGS!!!!!!!!
Lis is dirty, Lis is dirty!!! lol
Oh, I’m so sad I gotta go to class…. I could play here all day!!!!
@ David- you are a sick man lol
November 4th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
If I recall correctly, the Brady Bunch got spanked.
And I think Jan kinda liked it.
November 4th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
Did somebody say spanking?
November 4th, 2009 at 3:00 pm
Last night was awesome by the way. No better way to top off a 5X2 DL effort with a 2K row–Brilliant!
@ Lis, don’t know what Brady Bunch you were watching, but I don’t remember any spanking going on…just a lot of groovieness. Unless you are talking about Sam and Alice’s “alone time” play…
November 4th, 2009 at 4:04 pm
Alice was gay. Sam was a beard.
There I’ve said it.
November 4th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
Mike was gay too…
November 4th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
I am pretty close 2 100% sure we are talking about the same Brady Bunch.. but heres the thing-the mind control either worked on u or it didn’t. Clearly they were ALL gay (except the two youngest, obviously) the show was created by crazy liberals in an attempt to subliminally control how gay the population at large would become in an attempt to control over popultion…. considering all the boys I know who like high heels.. I’d say it worked.
Additionaly, anyone involved in the “community knows Alice was gay and the mom was a mistress with a mean spanking hand… there, I said it.
November 4th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
I never trusted Carol Brady.
November 4th, 2009 at 4:25 pm
Also… good rubber band talk going on over @ the A-blog… I can’t even believe I find that interesting…
November 4th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
I just can’t trust a woman with all those kids+ a riding crop… somethin ain’t right
November 4th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
The rubber band talk is actually really good on the A-Blog today. Although I can’t believe Jen named female anatomy over there and barely anybody blushed.
November 4th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
I know some of you will find what we are saying “crazy talk” but just think back to all the other mind control instances we are aware of that we believed:
Low-fat food is good- bullshit
Lots of cardio and sit ups make us strong- more bullshit
Women who lift stuff look like dudes, my sexy ass begs to differ..
Mistress Carol, out there to give spankings and make us gay??not so hard to imagine!
November 4th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
well Lis, I do think Jen is speaking of my hooha that was injured by a band…
Don’t worry the Hoo was damaged but the Ha was ok… it’s all good now…
Has anyone else injured a Hooha at CFW recently???
November 4th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
I think Viv might speak to this condition.
And she is a nurse.
November 4th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
Viv, Jackie…. what say you??? Any issues with damaged hoohas yourselves? how do you best treat a damaged one?
Melissa- Is there a PT course of treatment for a snapped hooha???
November 4th, 2009 at 4:48 pm
Any of the men want in on the Hooha questions?
I do recall both Chris and Toon(if I’m not mistaken) hurting their Hoohas in the old box (ha! I said old box!) Box jumps can be scary 4 the Hooha as well….
November 4th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
or was it Nate box jumping???
November 4th, 2009 at 4:50 pm
I’m not certain that men have hoo-has.
But I’m not a doctor.
Or a nurse.
November 4th, 2009 at 4:51 pm
Nurse MOP?!?! oh, thank God that is not the case!
November 4th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
Have we really talked about spanking, nurses, and hoo-has in Comments today? Anyone wandering into our blog thinking that we would be talking about our WOD times is really scratching their head right now.
November 4th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
I think there might be a movie about a Nurse MOP.
But not on the Hallmark channel.
November 4th, 2009 at 4:52 pm
WTF is a WOD???? BAHAHAHA
November 4th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
I don’t know. I just hear them talk about it sometimes.
November 4th, 2009 at 4:57 pm
for the love of everything holy….I can’t believe I miss this conversation because I am busy at practice. Swimming gets in the way of everything!!!
I am happy to say that I have not hurt my hooha at cfw, yet. though when K brings up her story in during gym class & all the males just look at her like they want a her to re-enact it, I can only laugh & ask if her snatch will be ready for EC’s clinic
November 4th, 2009 at 4:59 pm
wow, you two have gotten totally out of control. I can’t believe Jen is missing all this. I have never spanked my whooha with a band or old box. Maybe I am just not trying hard enough?
November 4th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
Rwww, Donna. I sure don’t want to spank my hoo-ha with an old box. What’s in the water there in New Zealand?
November 4th, 2009 at 5:01 pm
I meant to say “Ewww.”
November 4th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
And Jill, that sill job gets in the way of everything. Jeez.
November 4th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
I meant “silly” — I should stop now.
November 4th, 2009 at 5:10 pm
oh good, I thought you were groweling at me. I got scared for a minute.
November 4th, 2009 at 5:12 pm
oh my word!
November 4th, 2009 at 5:24 pm
I like growling. At the right moment.
November 4th, 2009 at 5:45 pm
Thanks for spelling it correctly, I just really don’t care much about grammer or spelling at times. Espcially when people are throwing their whohas around.
November 4th, 2009 at 5:46 pm
its not a hooha story but in typical jill cook fashion….
yesterday I was using the bulk cutters to break some locks off the lockers…First of all the cutters were well over 40 lbs & I was told that they would cut thru anything. As I was struggling to get the last lock off, I was misholding the bulk cutters & wouldnt you know it – the thing swung & whipped me in the ribs. As I doubled over onto the locker room floor, I immediately bruised up & broke the skin.
the bright side is that just missed the area where my underwire is & thank goodness because I’m pretty sure I wouldve been reprimanded at work if I came in bra-less!
