Anita learns to Front Squat, under the watchful eye of her platform partner Becky.
That phrase sounds silly — “platform partner” — but it’s a pretty cool principle when you think about it. Most gyms are full of people who are so alone — alone in their workout, alone in their heads, alone with their earphones and their music.
At CrossFit Watertown, you’re never alone. (And we don’t mean that in a creepy “make your number unlisted” kind of way.)
If you’re lifting on the platforms, you should all be talking to each other. “Chest up.” “Knees out.” “DRIVE!”
When you’re in the metcon, the lack of oxygen makes talking a weeee bit difficult, but an occasional “Go!” or a few words at the end of workout (”Nice work”) can mean the world to someone else.
Just something to think about. We all love to be strong and independent, but there’s something about a community that feels really good too.
SCHEDULE ALERT: The Friday 5pm class is canceled. There will only be a 6am and noon class on Friday. Melissa’s MetCon Hell will be held as usual on Sat at 8am. (Lis, Jen, and Pam will be in CA for the CrossFit Kids Cert — and our other trainers have obligations. Thanks for understanding!)

Giving and getting the encouragement make all the difference for me and what sets our place apart. I know it is because of that I am able to push harder and go further than I would under my own devices.

Hey all,
Check this out:
*
6 pounds bison/Buffalo First Cut Brisket, cut into three pieces
* 1/2 cup diced slab bacon (about 3 ounces)
* 1 large diced spanish onion
* 1/2 cup chopped shallots
* 6 garlic cloves, smashed and chopped
* 1 small red jalapeño chile, seeded, chopped
* 2 cups dried cherries
* 1 cup dried cranberries
* 2 cup strong espresso (decaf is fine)
* 1/2 cup Cider syrup, apple cider reduced down to thick honey consistency
* 2 cup low-sodium beef broth
* 1 cinnamon stick
* 4 star anise
* 4 bay leaves
* 3 large tomatoes, diced
* 2 tablespoons toasted mustard seeds
* 2 tablespoons lime juice or verjus
1.
Preheat oven to 325°F.
2.
Sauté bacon in heavy large wide ovenproof pot over medium heat until beginning to brown. Using slotted spoon, transfer bacon to plate. Increase heat to medium-high. Season brisket with salt and pepper. Cook until browned on all sides, about 7 minutes total. Transfer to large plate.
3.
Add onions, shallots, garlic, and jalapeño to pot. Reduce heat to medium, cover, and cook until vegetables are soft, stirring occasionally, about 10 minutes. Add coffee and broth; stir, scraping up browned bits. Add all remaining ingredients; bring to boil. Add bacon and ribs, cover, and transfer to oven. Braise until meat is tender, about 3 hours.
4.
Can be made a day ahead. Cool slightly. Chill uncovered until cold, then cover and keep chilled. Rewarm in 325°F oven until heated through, about 30 minutes, before continuing.
5. Transfer ribs to plate; tent with foil to keep warm. Spoon fat from surface of sauce. Boil sauce until reduced to rich sauce consistency. Remove cinnamon stick and star anise, Pour sauce over ribs.
If you need help? Ask. I’ll help fix it. If you want more? Ask. That’s why I’m here.
Eat like its a sport,
Chef

Ooooh. Ringer tees. Rockstar, I like the way you think.
And that stretching that you and Jen were doing on the training floor yesterday was pretty hot, but we’re not going to go into that right now.

A$$ tune up…is that a rear-end tune up? Do you have to back it in when you go to get this tune up? Did you get your snow tires put on at the same time or just rotated?
