Refusing to Settle

CFW Daily

anitasueAnita and Sue — newbie and CrossFit veteran, same workout, different weights.

We use the term “infinitely scalable” to describe CrossFit, but what does that really mean? This photo is a definition. Sue uses 65lbs for her overhead squat (5 rounds of 15 OHS, 30 sit-ups) while Anita uses a 15lb bar, because she’s still learning the movement.

What don’t you see in this photo? Bob, in the same class, using a 15lb bar also. Or Hamid, using a 45lb bar. Each of them scaling the workout to their own capabilities. And Kirk, coaching all of them — keeping them safe and leading them onward, correcting where necessary and praising that which is earned.

And you don’t see three new members in their Fundamentals Class, on the rowers behind Anita, learning about proper form from Jen and Chris.

You can go to any gym and work out. But if you want to learn how to do things right, come to CrossFit Watertown. We’re not interested in half-assed, “good enough”, “close enough” or any of those other BS terms that people use when they’ve decided to accept mediocrity in their lives. We want you the best for you — and we want you to demand that for yourself. Don’t settle for second-best. You’re worth more than that. We all are.

Bam, first post I hope! Unless someone beats me to it while I frantically type this sentence that isn’t really needed.

  2. Chris Says:

    You JUST beat me, David!

  3. David K Says:

Great post Lis. The scalability of crossfit is one of the things I like most. I love that I can work right alongside the firebreathers, be encouraged by the group and encourage the group; everyone working collectively and individually. We have great coaches at CFW and we also have a great community.
Last nights WOD was awesome. Everyone kicked ass and I was really moved by Erin’s indomitable spirit (reminded me of the nasty girls video). I’ve never seen anything like what we have at a globo. The workouts make me strong and the community keeps me accountable which in turn is having positive affects throughout my life. Crossfit and CFW have both humbled, bettered and inspired me. Thanks guys.

    @Chris–every second counts….

  5. David K Says:

Crap, I forgot to delete the word “both” after I through in bettered…oh well. I guess, I will have improper usage burpees tonight.

  6. Lisbeth Says:

(Chris is now frantically practicing “refresh” and typing skills so he can win the “First Post” title tomorrow.)

Erin deserves much credit for last night. She kept going long after most people might have quit. And she finished, no matter how hard it was on her, physically and mentally. Nice work, Erin.

Moments of personal heroism. They feed all of our souls, whether we realize it or not.

  7. Kirk Says:

Sue rocked that workout last night! Anita has solid form and great depth on the OHS. I think we’ll have to throw some more weight on that bar next time!!!

  8. Rich Says:

Great post Lis and you are so right. (as usual)
Erin, you are an animal!!! That was one of the best “finishes” we have seen at CFW. As you pushed through it, all I could think of while watching you is good ol’ Lance. “Pain is temporary, quitting last forever” We new you wouldn’t quit.

    Hey CFW Peeps!
As you know the L1 is coming to town…I’m now in stress mode!
If you have belongings at CFW that are not in your locker please take them home.
Also, Friday after class is move everything out of the box night and sweep. I would love some help!!!
It looks like it’s going to rain this weekend…Crapballs! So we will be using the downstairs room which I’ve been cleaning for the last few days. It will need one more sweep on Thursday night…any takers?
On Sat after the end of day one we will host what’s call a “Drink and stink” feel free to come by for that I’m not sure what time that will be but Lis will post it on her FB as the day takes shape. Thank you all for your help!
    Jen

  13. Kirk Says:

I’ll put some swiffer sweepers on Jackson’s legs and that place will be like new in no time! I plan on coming to Friday’s noon class (with J-man) and I’ll help clean afterwards. I can probably help Thursday as well.

  14. Rich Says:

  25. Lisbeth Says:

I just want to point out that my Nasty was better than Melissa’s Nasty tonight. By a full 7 seconds. Maybe mature MILF is just better?

  26. Greg Says:

    Lis… that’s just plain old nasty…. ZING!

  27. Kirk Says:

Lis, you’re just lucky Sue didnt’ come to class last night….ZING!!!!! Of course, she would have waxed my time, too.
