Another Fundamentals Class . . . and more proof that CrossFit can be learned and practiced by everyone, not just Marines or cops or gym rats. Get over the idea that you have to be in shape to start CrossFit — or that you have to be a UPS driver (hahaha — we actually heard this one) — or that it’s somehow unsafe or extreme. Kids do it. Nursing mothers do it. Old ladies do it. 43-year-old blogging former English teachers do it. (Whoops, that’s me!)
In Sept, 2007, CrossFit Watertown was approximately Affiliate #250 to join CrossFit, Inc. Today (two years later) there are 1500 CrossFit Affiliates worldwide — with another 400 about to come onboard. CrossFit, Inc. was recently named one of the “Top 100 Brilliant Companies” by Entrepreneur magazine. In a down economy, CrossFit is booming. CrossFitters are on every continent in this world and the number of CrossFit affiliates will double in CT alone this year.
What are you waiting for? Every day, people write into CrossFit Headquarters and say, “I wish I had found CrossFit earlier.” (I know, I read this stuff in my job as Affiliate Program Manager for CrossFit HQ.) No one has told us: “I wish I never heard of CrossFit.” College teams, rowing clubs, community centers, and your everyday moms and grandparents (in addition to the cops, firefighters, and military) write to CFHQ daily and thank us for the transformative power of CrossFit in their lives.
And I believe them. Because it changed my life too.
So, get over your fear of CrossFit and join us. There’s a Women’s Boot Camp starting in September — as well as another CrossFit Kids session. And you can always just call and start today. Why wait?
(And everybody say hi to the Matts and Hamid {pictured above} as they join regular classes next week! Say hi also to Ariel, who isn’t in the photo but is starting regular classes too!)
(Also — say thanks to Pamela and Nate for the rockin’ new sound system! A team and a plan comes through — thank you!)

Old ladies are cool, but be careful who you call old. I’m just a couple years younger than you. I’m not ready to be old.

It make me happy to see new peeps joining up at CFW! Welcome to your strange but always well meaning new home!
Quick note on the sound system thingy… the mouse we have for it is garbage, the somewhat important left click button is wonky – if anyone has an extra usb or ps2 mouse laying around feel free to donate it
Also, if you have any mp3’s you want on it, bring them in via data CD or usb jump drive.
Note: who would have guessed how excited Jen was to have Foreigners greatest hits on hand.

And Mike — I didn’t count myself in the “old ladies” category, BUT I guess you did! LOL
August 28th, 2009 at 11:11 am
Oh, does that mean I can throw some death metal on there? *crosses fingers*
August 28th, 2009 at 11:34 am
Chris, of course. When you’re in there by yourself.
Anyhow, over at Facebook, there’s a new CFW video starring our own Becky . . .
August 28th, 2009 at 11:56 am
Oops. Sorry Lis. I guess I may no longer be qualified as the comprehension monitor. I reread that and found my error. My apologies. So who are the old ladies. If Jen comes to you with my long winded email and it doesn’t make sense I will be happy to elaborate. I was in a boring meeting and had all sorts of ideas. I might have gotten a little excited and let it all fly at once.
August 28th, 2009 at 1:27 pm
Oh, I get it Mike! You meant that Jen was an old lady. It’s okay to say that.
Just don’t say it to Mary or she’ll beat you to death with the red kettlebell. (It hides the blood.)
August 28th, 2009 at 1:28 pm
good to know. in case i need a red kettlebell

August 28th, 2009 at 3:17 pm

Hi Friends
Barry and I wanted to extend an invitation to all to join us tomorrow morning at 10am at the Holy Cross track in Waterbury for a running WOD with fun stuff in between. We were planning on running 400m, 10 burpees, run, 20 pushups, run, 30 squats, run, 40 lunges, run, 50 situps, run. We would love to have some company! Neither of us have been able to make it to xfit in two days so we figured we would try to make our own tomorrow.
August 29th, 2009 at 2:46 pm
What time?
August 29th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
we were thinking 10am
August 29th, 2009 at 6:07 pm
Becky,
If you get a chance let me know what kind of turnout you expect. I will have 2 kids with me if i go so I might need help keeping them occupied. I can keep the baby in the jogging stroller but the other one might try to participate. As in get in the way.
August 29th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
Right now I think it is only Barry and me…
August 29th, 2009 at 8:09 pm
I will do my best to get there. 10 AM is nap time. The little guys like to get up before 6.
August 30th, 2009 at 5:50 pm
How’d the track WOD go this morning? I did moving for time today, getting my brother back up to UCONN for the school year. See everyone during the week.
