Kathrine, redeeming herself from buttery-sugar-confection status (i.e.”Cupcake”) and throwing up some numbers in the front squat at the 6am class. (150 lb PR, thankyouverymuch.)
In other news, not only do we have John of Laurel Ridge Grass-Fed Beef (go to his website — you never saw cows look so beautiful in a horizon shot) as one of our members (yeah, John!) but we also have Darlene bringing in fresh eggs that her neighbor sells. Maybe we should put a sign-up list on the board for whoever wants fresh eggs and grass-fed beef?
Meanwhile, we love bacon and eggs, but we’re not sure why people like to dress small dogs in costumes. If we were a dog, we’d bite back.
Oh — and, if you’ve improved your diet (or attempted to) since the EC Extravaganza, tell us in Comments how you’re doing! Alex gave us an update from Animal House in yesterday’s comments, so now everybody else be like Alex. (Well, except for that kegger stuff and staying up all night. He’s in college — he gets a pass!)

No Sugar and only a “little” beer and I think I can see half an Ab. Oh happy days!
January 23rd, 2009 at 10:46 am
Aside from the that kegger stuff and staying up all night (thanks for the pass lis) can say that during the WEEK I am trying really hard to keep the carbs under 100g and Im doing pretty well.

Eating habits update. I don’t like to call it dieting. It’s not mentally how I want to approach it.
To date: No processed sugar. No wheat (including beer). Very Very little starch. No foods with flour. A lot of eggs, bacon, meat, veggies. I have also been fasting from 8/9 pm till at least Noon the next day.
I did allow myself 1 cheat meal (Double bacon BBQ cheese burger and onion rings) that included 3 Cokes. My stomach made sounds I had never heard before the whole night.
A few people have asked how much weight I have lost but honestly I don’t know. I’m sure it’s a few pounds but that’s really not that important to me. I figure if I eat better and continue to do 3 WODs in less than a 15 hour period, the weight will take care of itself. My success meter is how I feel and how much my spare tire around my waste deflates.

In case you guys have not noticed…
1. I might have a slight touch of addictive personality disorder. If I make up my mind to do something, it’s all or nothing.
2. I can talk and ramble forever unless you shut me up. And I won’t be offended if you tell me to shut my yapper.
January 23rd, 2009 at 12:18 pm
Believe it or not, I’ve cut back on my cereal….a lot. Also, I’m eating more veggies, fruit AND nuts, and trying to cut down on bread and crackers and stuff like that. I’ve even cut down my soda consumption. Oh, I’ve been eating a lot of eggs, too. It’s going well so far, but I’m far from perfect.
@K – impressive front squat numbers. It looks like you redeemed yourself. But, you still owe us some brutal met cons like we went through this week!

I have actually been doing very well (for me). Lots of bacon, chicken, tuna, and pork and lots of veggies. Virtually no carbs. Water and fresh sqeezed OJ only to drink. I’ve never been a big drinker.
However I did have two pizza nights and a really bad icecream and powdered donuts night. Still – its a 180 for me.
I have seen no difference in anything really but that could be for a variety of reasons.

It’s Friday and you guys are talking about diets…when are we going out for drinks?
January 23rd, 2009 at 1:18 pm
Are we discussing food intake? You guys could learn a few things from me, I actually finished writing my first diet book, I just need a publisher. Today i had three paleo cheese puffs, two cups of black coffee and a King Leo mint (which, incidentally, are the best mints ever made). Take that Atkins.

@Becky: I don’t know which one of us has it worse as far as living with someone who is going to tempt us to the dark side. You with Barry or me with my pregnant wife. Last night, my wife ate ice cream right out of the the container while laying in bed next to me. Then she had chips, salsa, and queso. I almost had to downstairs to watch tv and sleep.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:06 pm
Wow! Greg’s wife is following the same diet I am! (Except for the being pregnant part.) Be honest with me: Is it a sin to eat nachos while writing a fitness blog?
Diet confession: I stopped eating most carbs, eat a ton more protein, and have stayed (mostly) away from cookies. Diet has always been fairly paleo. (The fairly comes from the cookies and the raw sugar I put in my tea.)

@Jackie: Is the correct answer “tonight”?
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:23 pm
My sugar addiction is raging its ugly head as we speak…I’m good until about 2pm…the afternoon Zone bar is history and boy to I miss it! Also, I find that 8pm is a challenge as well…Its not so much the meals as the time in between that’s the hardest for me.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:25 pm
Oooh diet talk…well I’ve cut way down on my carbs & dairy, I stopped having cereal for breakfast and have eggs with hot sauce (i love spicy food to much to ever give it up) I’ve been getting more protein in my diet and have also cut out a good portion of sugar. I also only have beer on the weekends now but I am guilty of a shot or two of whiskey on the rocks at night
I’m hoping this move out for me will help me get an even better handle on my diet since my family has been on a desert binge since october
I’ve also dropped 5+ lbs and almost a belt notch
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:26 pm
Also K’s 150 front squat is super impressive and I should be at the 8am tomorrow
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:28 pm
Let’s see. No gluten (which I have an allergy to anyway lol) for 2 weeks, no sugars for the same amount of time(except that stupid, super yummy, Bacon!!).
No “nightshades” since the EC lecture and I don’t know if its placebo effect or what but my joints that used to pop and creak have pretty much stopped doing that all together.
The exception being vodka… I’m trying to sub wine for vodka but even though I LOVE my wine– I REALLY love vodka…. ALOT…lol
Since the EC talk I’m down 9lbs so I’m back to 160 which is good…just a few more to go lol
Greg I’m sorry your wife does that too you… did you tell her it’s bad for the health lmao…
@-kirk… my Met-cons com in the form of waiting on, then running around, for the ungreatful bastards that come to my place of work.
January 23rd, 2009 at 2:56 pm
Wow, sounds like everyone is making some serious progress with the way they’re eating lately! Congrats to everyone and keep it up!
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:01 pm
wow…I really missed out on the EC talk & all this info on what to eat. I’m guessing that the can of frosting I ate for breakfast for 5 days had once I got home from Florida isnt part of the new nutrition deal!!
For real, even though I wasnt there – I’ve been working on my eating but would love to hear some of the things that EC talked about. I’ve been eating a lot of turkey, chicken, veggies & fruit.
FYI – got in & swam today…even though I’ve only done a few WODs in the last week, I cant believe how much easier my swimming is. And I’m def not in swimming shape. I did do a 100 yds for time at the end – about 5 secs faster than the last time I did it back in Nov!!
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:05 pm
You guys all sound like you’re doing great! Small healthy changes that you can keep without feeling deprived is the way to go. Luckily for me Jackson requires that I keep dairy and healthy carbs in my diet, but I have since cut out 75% of the processes crap I used to eat. Jackson tells me wine and chocolate makes the milk taste good…wouldn’t want to deprive my son!
January 23rd, 2009 at 3:44 pm
Melissa is absolutely right. It has to be something that you can live with for the rest of your life. If not, it’ll be a lot easier to slip back into old habits. Personally, I found it much easier to do it in steps than try and go completely cold turkey on the junk (mmm, turkey).
January 23rd, 2009 at 5:06 pm
I can’t believe I missing front squats with CFW! I did them here with my friend Curtis!
Since the EC talk I’ve been eating Paleo at about 90% and IF’ing 4 times a week. EC, did not get into the IF’ing at your talk to much. http://www.marksdailyapple.com/fasting/
http://www.modernforager.com/blog/2008/03/04/my-intermittent-fasting-success-story/
Becoming more strict on the paleo means more money spent on food. Take advantage of your Grassfeed beef man! It’s like gold here!
As for the sugar, I’ve cut back but not out. I just don’t think it would be something I could stick to. My dairy is down to almost nothing. Cream in my coffee which i will never not do and a glass of milk from time to time. Oh and the love of my life Chocolate, 70% coco Ridder sport.
Overall I can live with what I’m doing and I see the changes in my body that I wanted. Paleo has been a huge eye opening deal for me….Huge!
Tonight..beer! Wish I was there!

Matt, I’m proud of you — and everybody else! Changing your diet is not an easy thing to do, but it’s worth it. Keep up the good work, everybody!
