CFW Daily

Guess who’s the new assistant Field Hockey coach at Trumbull High School? Our own Becky — who also coaches the Girl’s Track Team at Trumbull. Plus Becky’s a bride-to-be and she’s giving her seamstress fits (just 6 weeks before her wedding) as her waist shrinks and she adds upper body muscle! Time to adjust the wedding dress again!

Becky used a lot of those muscles this weekend at the Healthnet Olympic Triathlon in Shelton, where she completed the swim portion as part of a relay team and smoked a competitor from another CT CrossFit affiliate. (And, no, we won’t tell you who it was.)  And the really horrible thing is that Becky is a nice person with a great fiance and a fabulous mother. Don’t you just hate her? Congrats to Becky for her successes on so many levels!

(But, quick, tell us what she’s doing wrong during the bench press and you drink free from the water cooler all month long! You do have to supply your own cup though. And no take-out.)

On another note, we all have our odd habits. Some of us grip and regrip the bar between reps, or breathe a certain number of times before pulling in the deadlift. We just thought it was us being odd — but it turns out that it might actually be helping our mind control our performance. Read how in this New York Times article about some professional tennis players and their strange habits.

-Her eyes weren’t just under the bar.
-She wasn’t looking at the ceiling.
    -She had an uneven grip.
-She didn’t take a deep breath at the beginning of each rep.
-She didn’t think about GETTING IT DOWN AND GETTING IT RIGHT BACK UP.
-Her feet weren’t firmly planted on the ground.
    -Her back wasn’t arched.
-She didn’t lower the bar all the way.
-She didn’t lower the bar straight down and straight up..
-She didn’t think DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE DRIVE the whole time.

Ok. It’s gotta be ONE of those!

My work here is done. I’ll just leave the door open and the lights on!

(But now you have to pick only one of those . . . or you’re drinking from the hose outside!)

Psst, Becky, it’s true. I caught K. chalking up at the END of the WOD. Something about her steering wheel being slippery. I didn’t believe her.
